The Narrows Park Community Group was formed in 2019 to work with Cheshire West and Chester Council to improve the biodiversity of the Narrows Park in Hoole and to improve the area through planting, pruning and basic maintenance.
Volunteers from the surrounding area are involved in this work and they have now successfully developed a wild flower meadow and other areas planted with bulbs to attarct insects. Plans are afoot to bulod a couple of planters to host culinary herbs to add to the already planted area of blackcurrant and gooseberry bushes.
These improvements have meant that the park has greater use by local residents and has become a lot more attractive compared to its previous state of a simple pathway through a grassy area.
In 2022 The Narrows Park Community Group has been succesful in obtaining funding from the players of the People’s Postcode Lottery to build and install planters and signage in the park to develop the ‘edibles’ area.
