A quick guide to dispose of all your Christmas rubbish in the most sustainable way
Christmas cards - If you are able, take your cards to a Marks and Spencer store where they will donate all proceeds to planting new trees – a tree for every 1000 cards. If you have no way of getting your cards to M & S, then put all your cards in the green recycling box.
Wrapping paper & envelopes - save whatever wrapping paper you can for next year and put the rest in the green box. Metallic paper and plastic wrapping must be put in the rubbish bin.
Christmas trees – chop up natural trees and put them in the green wheelie bin with the lid closed.
Christmas lights - if they become unservicable put them in the green box with small electrical appliances, cables and batteries
Biscuit and chocolate tins - if you can’t put them to good use then put them in the grey box.
Old clothes – you can donate these to Chester Aid to the Homeless (CATH) on 01244 314834 or at any high street charity. If they are not suitable for donation put them in a sealed bag next to the green box.
